Eat The Roses, by Meaghan Quinn

Lovers This is basically a story about a pair of female secret-agents, who like James Bond travel accrossed the world on thier mission. Unlike Bond however, there is little action and no sex, but there is plenty of manga-styled comedy and a whole lot of romantic drama. I guess that's what James Bond would be like, if James was a woman in a manga written by women.

At the beginning we are introduced to Rhea, a lovely female agent with long blonde hair. She is the main character in the early chapters. However, she is assigned a partner, Mel, who is initially described as being a "freak." Over the course of the story, Rhea is pushed into the role of a supporting character, while Mel takes center stage. I think this was a good decision, because frankly I just like Mel alot better than Rhea. Coincidentally, Mel looks an awful lot like the authur (whose picture can be seen in gag comedy strips.) I guess this goes to show that reality can make good inspiration.

Mel and Rhea both get into all sorts of romantic situations with thier respective love interest. Since I am a sucker for this kind of thing, naturally I enjoyed it. This webcomic has many other good things going for it as well. First of all it is very long, so there is a lot to read once you get into it. Second, the art improves quite dramatically over the course of the story. The first few chapters are fairly rough, but if you stick it out you will be rewarded with Meaghan's lovely art. She draws people quite nicely, I think. Her color pages are also very nicely done.

Personally I really liked the character of Mel, and fortunetly she gets tons of "screen-time." However there are also tons of guy characters, so Meaghan definetly has an ear tuned to what her female audience wants. If you like romantic stories, then I would definetly recommend this comic! I found it to be quite entertaining.
