This is a story about Raven, a teenage girl who lives with her foster parent Gabe in a normal suburban neighborhood. She would like nothing better than to go to school, hang out with her friends, and do other ordinary girl type things... Lead an ordinary life. However, life is not ordinary when you are a demon-girl with a mysterious past. Unfortunetly for Raven, her life seems destined to become caught in a tangled web of the politics of Heaven and Hell.
First, let me say this about this comic: this is quite possibly one of the longest graphic-novel type comics on the net. Yes, there are strip-style comics that are longer, but those are a different breed of comic. To create a graphic novel of the length of Faith's Demonology 101 takes and incredible amount of work. It's quite admirable that she has finished four complete "episodes" of her story. The amazing thing about this comic, though, is that in addition to there being alot of it, the art quality is also quite high. Especially in the later episodes. Faith's art style is fairly unique in the sea of online comics, it is not manga-ish at all but it is dark and brooding, while at the same time cheerful. Shading is very important in this comic; Faith's shading adds alot to overall look and feel of the story. Character designs are simple, but bold. The story line is well done. Although a bit rough in spots, the story is fairly easy to follow for the most part. The characters are well-developed, and the relationships between them are interesting. There is alot of chemistry between them. Many of the characters have thier share of secrets, which are revealed in good time. The main character, Raven, is a very good main character. Although a bit meek, she seems to have a vitatlity to her that gives her charm. She is written very much like an ordinary girl, which is nicely juxtapositioned with the fact that she's a demon. This comic seems to have a fair influence from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, except of course there are demons instead of vampires. But, I'd recommend this comic to anyone who wants to see an example of nicely done long web-comic. Visit "Demonology 101" |
